Biography Edmond O'Neill was born in Nashville, Tennessee on December 13, 1859. Upon graduation from the University of California in 1879, he began his career there as an instructor in the Department of Chemistry. O'Neill was dean of the department from 1901 to 1912, and acting dean for 1918 and 1919.
